Equipment groups

Post by wolfie_47 » Fri Sep 20, 2013 8:02 pm

Is it possible to create equipment groups or at least set various pieces of gear as default for each dive?
Thanks,
Herman

Hi Herman,

We have a slightly different concept than groups of equipment or groups of things - everything happens at the "dive" level. So as a work flow, what we promote is getting a single dive setup the way you want for *everything*. So tanks, equipment, dive types, dive suit and weight, buddies, weather, entry etc etc etc. And then just use that dive as a template for future dives. So all of that information, the "group" of equipment that you used plus everything else, will be copied over and used in the new dive as well. If you go on a dive trip, you would setup the first dive of your trip with the particular set of equipment and information applicable to *that* particular trip. If you are someone who dives in your local area, then you would setup a dive that reflects what you "normally" wear and do. The things that *don't* make sense to duplicate (date/time etc etc) don't get duplicated.

In Dive Log Manager, just pick the dive that you've setup the way you want. Then, under the "action menu" (the little wheel next to the Edit button) and select "Duplicate Dive". (Keyboard shortcut Command-D). And then you'll be in editing mode on the new dive. All the equipment, and everything else too, will have been duplicated and show up already. Dive Log for iOS works the same way. If you get a dive setup the way you want, then just create a new dive using it as a template as prompted.

One thing that some people like to do is create a "Dive#0", and always use that as the template dive and all new dives are created as copies of that. Other people just use their "last" dive as a template.

Hope that helps explain how we envision things working,
Cheers,
Janice

Mr.T,

Yes you can. This is exactly how it was intended to work.

- So, when first logging the dive, use a previous dive or a dive#0 as the template and duplicate this dive to create and log your new dive. All the information listed previously will be copied to the new dive as well. Add any additional information you want, maybe Comments or things like that. For clarity of the example, let's say it was just 1 dive, your Dive#42
- (If you did this using Dive Log (for iOS), then transfer your logbook to the desktop over WiFi)
- Then download your dive computer or Import from another Logbook using the appropriate panel from the list on the left. Those dives now appear in the top section/window of the application. Your already logged dives, including dive#42 appear in the bottom section/window.
- Now click/select the dive in the top window that you want to Import
- Now click/select Dive#42 in the bottom window or just type in the number 42 into the "Starting Dive#:" box, and then click the Import button. (And hit OK on the confirmation popups)

This will *merge* the information from the dive computer or other logbook into what you have already logged for Dive#42. It will only replace the information that a dive computer knows best like start time and the dive profile information. It will leave alone everything else you have already logged.

- Then transfer your logbook back to Dive Log for iOS over WiFi

Hope that clears things up for you - Let us know if you have any further questions,
Cheers,
Janice
